  • Have we forgotten how to learn?

The world has forgotten to learn. Sometimes, we are so caught up with our everyday lives, we don't have the time to learn anymore. Learnng never stops, even when we reach our elderely years. Life is all about learning. We need to take some time, relax, and sometimes even stop and step aside to read that book, or to look up that definition. But more importantly, learning can be fun! People usually equate learning as boring and mundane. But learning can be a fun process. Bajaprog believes we have lost the fun in learning and this site is about how to recapture learning and the fun that we can have when we learn!

  • Learning a foreign language

As I have travelled extensively to Asia, I decided to spend some of my free time learning a new asian language. Specifically, I travel a lot to Hong Kong, Macau, and Guangzhou. Thus I decided to get a Cantonese tutor to improve my Cantonese when travelling in those areas. After practicing some time with the tutor, I was able to learn some basic phrases in Cantonese and have a very basic conversation in Cantonese.

On my next trip to Hong Kong, I decided to make use of what I learned. Astonishingly, it was time well spent because when I was in Hong Kong, I was able to order some dishes from some Chinese restaurants whereas before, I would never have had the vocabulary to make such an order. I was also able to get directions in Cantonese and this in itself made things much easier for me because not everybody in Hong Kong can speak fluent English, even though Hong Kong is one of the most English friendly cities in all of Asia.

  • Taking a trip down history road

So I've been reading more about World War I and World War II and watching a few documentaries and television shows on it as well. A really interesting site if you want to read about the UK's perspective on WWI and WWII is at BBC's history site. What I find most interesting about World War II was Winston Churchill. He is a very interesting man with many famous quotes, including this well known quote:

"We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and the oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."

I could have imagined what it was like in Winston Churchill's shoes at the peak of the Battle of Britain. After the losses at Dunkirk, Germany would start to bomb the UK heavily in what is known as the Battle of Britain. The UK was hanging on a thread. If Germany had succeeded in its campaign, they would possibly have had a good opportunity to invade the UK or force UK to peace negotiations favorable to Germany. After conquering all of Europe, you would have imagined the odds were heavily against the UK. Here the UK stood, a small group of islands against the entire continent of Europe that Germany had just conqueured. However, Winston Churchill stood firm and stood up to the German machine. He rallied his people and with persistence and a stubborn resolve, Winston Churchill would see events turn against Germany and his resolve was eventually rewarded.
